Life has become very boring in MICTLĀN, the Aztec Land of the Dead. Since Aztec culture was wiped out in 1521 by Cortez and his Spanish forces, there haven’t been any new arrivals. Like a lot of married couples, MICTLANTECUHTLI (Mic), the Aztec God of Death, and his wife MICTECACÍHUATL (Teca) have settled into a rut, their marriage is stagnant. There’s not much life in their afterlife routine. While Mic is content to simply drink and hang out with his friends, Teca, who has been maintaining the underworld solely for hundreds of years, yearns to visit the land of the living again. She is curious to see how much the world has changed since the heyday of the Aztec empire. What must life be like in 2020? She decides it’s time for her to have some fun for a change. The only problem is she doesn’t have a body!
Determined, Teca discovers an ancient ritual in which she can inhabit the body of a descendant of an Aztec royal. She finds her new vessel in GABRIELLA DE LA VEGA, an 18-year-old from Encino, California who is heading to college as a freshman. Gabby is shy, bookish, and apprehensive about leaving home for the first time.
In the spirit of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”, “Gabby Goes To College” is a fun, scary, humorous, romantic, emotional rollercoaster ride of adventure, girl power, demons, pop culture, and Aztec myths. Will Teca graduate college? Will Mic win back Teca? Will Gabby get her body back? Will Gabby and Ixta fall in love trying to escape Aztec Hell? The answer to all these questions is up to you!
